We have a new scam that is showing up in the area. Just last night a resident received a phone call from 207-532-5442 and Caller-Id showed it was from the State of Maine. The person on the phone told the resident that he had won money. Our good resident did the right thing and hung up. The number is local but technology is now able to allow scammers to have any phone number show up on the Caller-Id. This is called “Spoofing”.
I have provided a couple of links with good infor…mation regarding scams. If it sounds to good to be true, it probably is. I urge you not to engage with scammers and to just hang up on them. These calls can be repored to the Maine Attorny General’s Office, Consumer Fraud Division and also to the FCC.
